I’m back!

After the most insane three weeks of my life, I’m back! Italy was the time of my life, and I would love to go back right about now. I got back and everyone was pulling my hair and pulling me in eight different directions. A week without wifi and a cellphone is great, until you get back and you’re completely overwhelmed. I will figure it all out, and will get through this.

Tonight is a super exciting night, I’m becoming a grand-big and a big all at the same time! My adorable little, who I am so proud of it is getting a little and a twin. I’m so excited, being a big to my little has been so rewarding and watching her grow into such an amazing leader makes me so proud. Sorority stuff may seem lame to some of you, but it was the best decision I ever made.

So speaking of reveal being tonight in the stress of all this, I decided to make red velvet cupcakes (our colors are wine and blue) for afterwards. I hope my new little likes red velvet, if not I have ice cream too. As a big you always have to be thinking! While I was baking I realized how incredibly relaxing it is for me. It is the single thing that distresses me. It just takes me away from all the stress, wear and tears and makes me smile. Plus, I love seeing the finished product or tasting it!

It all made me think of a really cute movie that I love, No Reservations. It is the cutest movie about an aunt who inherits her niece after a tragic car accident who is a professional chief. She is one of the heartless characters who doesn’t have a mothering bone in her body. Not to spoil anything, but you learn to love Kate, aka the gorgeous Catherine Zeta-Jones.

She meets a new chief Nick and things start to heat up in the kitchen. Kate isn’t a romantic, but a good-looking guy with some sparks and things in common could change anyone. It’s a great movie about learning to deal with the situations you are put in, and how to learn to love. Learn to love in more ways than one. Some people just aren’t the most lovey-dovey. I know I can be depending on the subject and situation. Other situations I just don’t understand yet, which is silly and needs to be evaluated.

Abigail Breslin plays the poor little girl who loses her mother, and puts on another spectacular performance. The cast just has big actresses that really do their job well. If you like to cook, or just enjoy a good family movie this is a great one to watch. It’s cute, fun and anyone can watch it. It’s a half decent rom com to curl up with a bowl of pasta and watch!

Happy Eating Readers!

Happy Birthday to me!

Yesterday was my 21st birthday! It was amazing and my friends surprised me and made it such a fantastic day.

I’m the luckiest girl in the whole world, I had a fantastic birthday, I’m a big for the second time and a grand big! and I’m flying to Italy in a few hours!

With that being said, I’m going on a hiatus for the next ten days because I’ll be on my trip and without internet or a computer! Imagine that, me without electronics it should be interesting. My life has been absolutely insane. I screamed last night so loud when I found out I was a big again, there is nothing better. I wanted to cry, I’ve seen my little grow so much as a leader and watched her come out of her shell.

I’m just so lucky, and I’ll miss you all! But think of it this way, I’ll have lots to blog about when I get back!

Ciao Readers!

St. Baldricks

I usually hate to blog about song after song after song, but tonight I was inspired.

I went to a St. Baldrick’s event sponsored by our Student Programming Board. For those of you haven’t heard of St. Baldrick’s it’s mission is to help cure children’s cancer. Attendees raise money for children’s cancer leading up to the event. Then, on one big night guys AND girls get up on stage to shave their heads. A kid with cancer will face the challenge of not having hair, what a better way to support them by going through the feat with them. If you want to learn more you, or even donate, check out their website: http://www.stbaldricks.org/history

While in the crowd at this event I saw a Quinnipiac female go up and have her head shaved. It was one of the most moving things I’ve ever seen. I may not know her reasoning, but I do know that is one of the bravest things I’ve ever seen. How incredible is it that a girl shaved all of her hair off to support childhood cancer?

In the shock and awe of it all one song really came to mind, Lee Brice’s “Love Like Crazy”. It’s probably one of my favorite songs out there, with some of the best advice out there.

Be a best friend, tell the truth
And overuse “I love you”
Go to work, do your best
Don’t outsmart your common sense
Never let your prayin’ knees get lazy
And love like crazy

If you ever take one piece of advice from this blog, I’d love it if you could take that message away. Being a best friend is the best gift you can give a person. I know my best friends have made me the person who I am today. They have changed me from a shy, awkward little girl into someone I can be proud of.

Never lie, it is my mom’s biggest pet peeve.

Overuse “I love you”, please do. Tell the people you love that you love them every day, every hour, every minute. You never know when life can change or when tragedy can strike. I’d rather you annoy someone by telling them you love them over and over again than them not knowing exactly how you feel. Love is a small word, but the power of it is impossible to describe.

Do your best, because at the end of the day the only person who has to be proud of you is you. If you do your best than you should feel accomplished and know that you are great just for being you. We can’t be good at everything all the time, but we can push ourselves to do our best and show the world what we’re made of. If we do our best then others will do their best and make the world a better place.

This part is completely selfish, but a guy held the door for me today to go in front of him and I thought it was the most gentlemanly thing ever. Guys do more of that and:

Always treat your woman like a lady
Never get to old to call her baby

If a guy can do that, well they’ve just won any woman’s heart who they want to. Treat a woman like a lady and you will get her whole heart. She’ll never even want to take it back. We value being respected, that’s a fact.

Most importantly readers, Love like Crazy.

Easy A

There are few cult classics for our generation, you know really great movies that create a following. One that will always make me laugh until I cry is Easy A. Emma Stone is pretty much comedic genius when it comes to movies like this, and Penn Badgely makes a nice touch as the boy who she always has had crush on.

It’s amazing how great home can feel, and for the simple reason that I can sit on the couch and watch movies like Easy A in complete comfort.  This movie is one of my best guy friends favorite movie, it may be because Emma Stone is just so pretty ,or because her character Olive has some really brilliant lines. I’m a huge fan of a very classy shower scene they feature where she sings “Pocket Full of Sunshine”.

The funny thing is that this movie features a huge cliché, that no good dead goes unpunished. Olive tries to help a friend out by saying that she was scandalous with him to have people stop talking about him behind his back. The guy brings her a present for helping him about lying about having sex with him and it becomes a huge deal and other guys start to use her new-found popularity to do the same. They give her gift cards, and other various things so they can say she slept with them.

It all starts to bite her in the butt, and isn’t very pleasant when people stop talking about these guys and start talking about her. It really isn’t fair, but she put herself in this position. For all this fake action, no one actually asks her on a date. Not having real dates takes a toll. (I know the feeling) Stanley Tucci plays Olive’s dad. He’s fantastic and her parents make the movie. Stanley Tucci is fantastic in every movie he’s in, so you can’t go wrong with him.

I love the humor, and the clever lines. Whoever wrote this movie was a genius in the teenage girl department. Olive is a high school senior, but it is really relate-able for all girls high school and college alike. Isn’t that the best part of movies? Not only laughing, but seeing the truth through someone else’s eyes. How a director or writer sees the world can really open others eyes to what it’s like to be in high school or whatever the content is.

I won’t spoil the ending, although you might be able to guess what happens. This is a great rainy day movie, or when you are just really in the mood to laugh. My guy friend loving the movie goes to show, guys can like chick flicks too! With that being said I’m going to make my dad watch something along those lines.

Happy Saturday from NJ!

Struggles

The universe just doesn’t want me to go home this weekend. Every time I try to make plans or a time to leave something ridiculous pops up and throws off my plans. No matter what tomorrow I will in my car taking the 3 and a half, hopefully not 4, hour drive across the Connecticut, New York and finally Jersey state lines. Just give me that sign that says “Welcome to the Garden State”. That’s not too much to ask, right?

Naturally, there is only one song on playing on my iphone this afternoon, Michael Buble’s “Home”. It is just the reminder I need that tomorrow is going to come and I will get to cuddle up in my own bed real soon! We each have our kryptonites, one of mine happens to be home, but I have others.

Well I would send them but I know that it’s just not enough
My words were cold and flat
And you deserve more than that

No matter how many times I call or Skype it just doesn’t feel the same as the actual act of being home. It’s a hug, it’s a smile, it’s the fact that your mom makes your favorite dinner just because your coming home. Last semester I went home a lot more than usual, but this semester I just haven’t had time. I’m also going to Italy for spring break instead of going home and relaxing for the week. I know it is going to be the experience of a lifetime, but it doesn’t mean I won’t miss home with all of my heart.

Let me go home
I’m just too far from where you are
I wanna come home

I just really have that ache in my heart to go home, writing about it does help it. I just feel like being surrounding by such amazing people. Give me really good food, and my own bed and I’m set! There are few things I am as passionate about in life as home. It seems silly, but I’m just a family oriented person. Always have been, and probably always will be. They always believe in me, and that’s the best people to have in your life. I’ve gotten more used to being away from home, and it gets easier overtime. Yet, I cry every single time I leave. It just happens because there is nothing better than Mays Landing, NJ with all of my family and my parents and the whole crew.

I really wish my friends from home were going home this weekend too, but I know they are super busy people. I’ll be really excited to see them in three/four weeks when we’re all home for Easter. Just a few more  hours, a little bit of packing and I’ll be there!

For the record, Dr. Suesses Birthday is tomorrow!

Lucky

This week is seriously dragging on and all I want is for it to be Friday. I get to go home and celebrate my birthday (a little early) and see the loves of my life aka my parents. I haven’t seen them since January and it is seriously breaking my heart. I am a huge homebody, and if I don’t get my “home-fix” every so often I go insane.

Talking about my parents makes me the happiest person alive. So I’m going to write about another one of my mom’s favorite songs. It’s a duet by Colbie Caillat and Jason Mraz, “Lucky”, and it is probably one of the prettiest songs I’ve ever heard. I’ve always been a huge fan of both of them, but this song is just pure gold.

Lucky I’m in love with my best friend
Lucky to have been where I have been
Lucky to be coming home again

My goal in my love life is to fall in love with my best friend. I mean that by saying I want to find someone who makes me, happy, and loves me for me. I think those qualities come from a best friend, and can be best found in a friend first. Friends are the family you get to choose in life, isn’t that the same as a husband? They become your family and you choose them so I feel the connection is close. Plus, I’m just a hundred percent myself around my friends and family which is the best way to be.

They don’t know how long it takes
Waiting for a love like this
Every time we say goodbye
I wish we had one more kiss
I’ll wait for you, I promise you, I will

Like I’ve mentioned before I fall in love with lyrics, waiting for love seems like it takes a life time. I know I’m only 20 (almost 21!) but as girls watching movies programs us to think that it is out there. That something big will happen, we will be swept off our feet. It’ll happen, but you have to put yourself out there. But I love the fact that this song says that when they say goodbye they never want to stop. It’s adorable, and exactly what I want. I have high hopes I know that, but why settle for something less than love? We should want the best for ourselves, and no we shouldn’t just “accept the love we think we deserve” unless that love is 100% the best it can be.

Every girl deserves to be treated like a princess, regardless of what day it is. Find the love that is worth it, that makes you feel lucky that you’re in love with your best friend.

When it happens

I have been way off of my blog flow this week, and strangely enough even though I’ve been really busy I’ve missed blogging. Blogging is such a great source of  creative energy and a good mind cleanse. It just helps to get all of my thoughts out there, without being annoying and texting everyone in the world. Plus, I’m talking about something I love.

When bookstores still existed I used to go into Borders with my Dad and he would let me go pick out a few books. It became how I started to love to read. He used to come over after he finished his book shopping and he would help me decide which books to read because I always had trouble deciding between two or three of them. I want to read everything!

One time in Borders my dad helped me pick out Susane Colasanti’s book When it Happens. It is a really cute chick lit novel that revolves around a relationship inept teenager, like me, who as never really had a boyfriend. Going into the school year her one goal is to change that, she wants the real thing, the total package.  What girl doesn’t want that? I know at my school where it is 60% female and 40% male the choices are slim pickings.

Sara, the main character, first gets a chance when “total package” Dave asks her out on a date. She loves his popularity and how it seems like a real relationship. All the while, bad boy Tobey thinks Sara is the real deal and tries to get her best friend Laila to help him out. He may have the bad boy reputation, but he wants more.  I guess guys actually want relationships too sometimes, or maybe this is just wishful thinking fiction.

The story is told in alternating perspectives, so you get to hear inside of Tobey’s head too. I love books where you can tell what both characters are thinking, it gives you the full picture of what is going on. It gets beneath the surface and make you feel like you are in on the action. Once I started with When it Happens, I moved on and went through all of Colasanti’s books. She just has a cool writing style that is very easy to read. It’s a quick read, I’d say it will only take you a few days if you read at a semi-fast pace.

I think we’re all waiting for when it will happen, when we will be swept off our feet. I’ll let you know when it happens to me, but for now I’m going to find some new music to blog about.

Have a fantastic weekend!

The point of delusion

This weekend has been the most insane weekend of my life. I have never laughed, cried, bonded or loved something so much. We had recruitment, and although it was draining it was also fantastic. So this blog may be a little different than usual.

There is nothing like recruitment weekend for a sorority, the level of bonding that happens is off the charts amazing. You meet an amazing group of women that could possibly join you’re sorority all while going through the experience with an already amazing group of women. I know having this experience has made best friends from girls who I didn’t talk to. Everything I said to the potential new members about how unique and stellar my sisters are was 100% truth. There is something about standing for three days straight in a  room, praying you get great girls, and pushing each other to be the best we can be that makes a sisterhood so real. Plus, those songs really get stuck in your head.

There is nothing like preference day and bid night. It is such a thrill to see all those girls “come home” to your sorority and be there to welcome them with open arms. I started crying because I saw two girl crying, it was a big emotional event. I wouldn’t trade a second of this weekend for anything in the world. It was something so incredible it makes the words fly out of my head.

There is something about putting the time in that makes the outcome all the better, which is why I’m obsessed with Josh Turner’s song “Time is Love”. I know that putting all this time in for our new members was completely worth it, and that they will make an incredible addition to our family. I know we had to “put in the hours” to find our new members.

Time is love gotta run, gotta fly

Angels were meant to fly, I think Josh Turner knew I would be talking about my sorority with this song.

But I got someone who waits,
Waits for me and right now
She’s where I need to be,

Side note about this: I love it to pieces, because it just makes me feel like I’m floating on air. If someone sang this to me, I would probably marry them on the spot.

My sisters are a perfectly great reason to blog, and to share this song with. They might not all like country music, but at least it’s really cute. Now off to my bed to sleep until forever!

Congrats to all the new angels! I made one of the best decisions when I went Greek, and I’m sure that you’ll feel the same way too.

Ta-da!

The big day is finally here, it is finally the fourteenth of February.

Happy Valentines Day!

For a blog that is full of love, today is a special day near and dear to my heart. It may not be my favorite day yet, but it is a day full of love which can’t be too bad. I fully enjoyed the chocolate I got from my nutrition professor, it was dark chocolate so it’s better for you, and the cute valentines day cards I got from my sorority sisters.  Our postal service isn’t very good though, so with it already being awful and the snow I couldn’t get my mom’s package. Twenty years later and my mom is still the best valentine!

Personally, I am a huge fan of the romantic comedies where they have a bunch of really good actresses and actors and they have these separate story lines that all somehow connect in the end. That being said there just so happens to be a great movie like that centering around this happy holiday. Valentines Day the movie with Ashton Kutcher, Jennifer Gardner, Jessica Biel, Jessica Alba, Emma Roberts, Taylor Swift, Taylor Lautner, Patrick Dempsey, Anne Hathaway, Jamie Foxx, Julia Roberts, Bradley Cooper, Kathy Bates and Eric Dane. It’s crazy how many big romantic comedy legends are in the film.

The movie takes a look at all different types of love; young, old, engagements, cheating, unlikely couples, family, and the atmosphere of valentines day. I love all of the story lines partially because they all have some type of happy ending. Even if Jessica Alba does leave Ashton Kutcher on the day he proposed, at least he gets to kiss Jennifer Gardner. A movie about Valentines Day shouldn’t ignore the ugly, but it should have a happy ending. Today is the day to watch great sappy love stories, it can’t end too sad. This movie is a must for today, if you don’t have it rent it.

I’m not the biggest supporter of today, mainly because I don’t have a valentine. But, I did receive really uplifting texts from friends and family today. Sure people will argue today is a made up holiday that the card companies use to make money and that it is solely a capitalistic venture, but I have to argue with that. So what if it is all about capitalist and money? What is so wrong about celebrating love for one day? Although I agree when people say it shouldn’t be just one day, but isn’t one day to be a sappy, happy person a good thing? I loved making a valentine for my friends and seeing the smile on their faces. It feels good to feel loved. It isn’t singles awareness day, it’s a great day to tell the people in your life just how much they mean to you.

All people should embrace the day, and walk into it with a smile. Wear pink or red, say Happy Valentines Day to total strangers, buy that three dollar rose they are selling in the student center for a friend. You don’t have to make a card or buy into the capitalism of the day, just enjoy the time to tell the people you love that you love them. Someone loves you, and you love someone (even if it’s just your parents) and that is worth celebrating. So be a bright ball of sunshine today and smile in the face of those who snarl at you. Oh, and eat lots of chocolate too!

Have a lovely Valentines Day.

Blast from the past.

Since it is loves favorite week to make an appearance I feel this week is a very important week to blog. I don’t usually go way back in the vault of love songs, I like to keep things current. Yet, as I was debating over what song to talk about I couldn’t help but think of an oldie but goodie. When I say old, I mean the year was 1963 old. That’s one of the fantastic things about growing up with amazing parents, they give you a music education from a young age of the classics.

I wanted to feature The Chiffons “One Fine Day” because it is a fun, happy, and hopeful song that I think every girl should listen to at one point or another. You’ve probably heard it in the movie, The Wedding Date or in Riding in Cars with Boys. There is just something so universal about the message:

One fine day, you’re going to want me for your girl.

One day I know you’re going to look at me and realize that I was the one, and that you actually want me as the one. That happens all the time on Valentines Day, the boys ask you to “go steady”. ( I couldn’t resist the terminology) I just love how it’s a girl saying, one day you are going to want me. One day you’ll be “proud to have me by your side”. Isn’t that all we really want to start? Someone who’s proud to call us theirs? Isn’t that what Valentines Day is really about? The public display of affection, a declaration of love.

One fine day, you’ll look at me  and you will know our love was meant to be.

We all want that instant gratification of someone looking at us and saying, wow that’s exactly who I want. It may seem shallow, and quite frankly it can be if they take it just based off looks. Yet, it would be a fine day indeed if the exact guy you wanted decided they wanted you too. If they walked out before, or if they were just friends and nothing more. That day when they pick up their head and realize, something special is right in front of me. I think every girl deserves to feel that, but I also think that every girl is special in their own right. No guy should decide if you are special or not, you are. One fine day girls, you’re going to be wanted by the person you want.

I saw a tweet the other day that said, “I want to be rich someday so I can send flowers to all the girls who won’t be getting any of Valentines Day. You’re all beautiful. #Ipromise” This just goes to show you, there are good fish left in the sea, and there is hope for all the Valentineless girls. Check the song out if you’ve never heard it. And check back Thursday on the big day!
