Special Edition

We interrupt this, well what used to be, regular scheduled blog to bring you something worth sharing: The Newsroom.

I’m not one to follow shows religiously, I usually get into them and drift off once the season really gets going because it all becomes predictable. I may not be a huge fan of surprises, but on TV it’s a different story. If it’s happening on TV it isn’t happening to you. My friend told me about The Newsroom and at first I laughed at him. There was no way I was going to like some HBO show that he did, needless to say we have very different opinions about what is good television. But, I usually need something interesting to do after work that doesn’t involve a computer screen so I gave it a shot.

And boy am I glad I did. It is the most interesting hour of TV I’ve watched in a long time. I love the format and there is just something unique about it, it has something for everyone. It has a great basic storyline, interesting character development, a little humor, a little love, and a whole lot of drama. It is about a prime time newsroom and how they deal with real events. It is how networks probably should’ve, or shouldn’t have, covered certain topics.

They pick real stories from the past year and do them the New Night with Will McAvoy way, and I have to say it is gripping television. I had actual chills in the episode where they covered the shooting of congresswoman Gabby Giffords, and also in the seventh episode where we got Bin Laden.

It is just good quality television. The show returns to HBO this weekend, and I’ve been timing it so I finish the first season and get to jump right into the second. It’s weird, I usually don’t get interested in these types of shows. Yet, I am so pulling for Mack and Will and Jim and Maggie. Watch it, and you’ll see what I mean.

The whole first season is on HBO OnDemand, and I highly advise you check it out if you can. That way I have more people to talk about it with!
